Kebbi Deputy Speaker Abducted by Gunmen After Evening Prayers

Armed men on Friday evening kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bagudu, shortly after he finished prayers at a mosque in his hometown, Bagudo.

According to reports, the attackers arrived in large numbers around dusk and began shooting into the air to create panic. In the chaos, they seized the lawmaker as he made his way home from the mosque. Residents were thrown into confusion as the gunmen quickly fled the scene with their target.

The Kebbi State Government has confirmed receiving reports of the incident and said that security agencies have been alerted. The government stated that it is working closely with security officials to secure the lawmaker’s safe release.

Armed security teams have since been deployed to Bagudo and nearby areas as efforts to locate and rescue the Deputy Speaker continue. Residents say fear has gripped the community following the attack, which adds to the growing insecurity in the state.

In recent months, Kebbi and other parts of northern Nigeria have witnessed an increase in cases of kidnapping and armed violence, leaving many communities anxious about their safety despite the ongoing operations by security forces.
