PDP Leaders Unite After Court Ruling, Vow to Rebuild Party on Justice and Rule of Law

Eminent leaders and concerned stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gathered in Abuja on Thursday, October 31, 2025, to deliberate on the recent Federal High Court judgment that reaffirmed legality, order, and respect for the rule of law within the party. The meeting, which came hours after the ruling, was aimed at charting a new direction for the PDP following months of internal crises and leadership disputes.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier delivered a judgment restoring constitutional order in the PDP by affirming the supremacy of the party’s constitution and clarifying the lawful duties of its officers. The decision, which many party members described as a long-awaited intervention, marked a new beginning for the opposition party.

In their communiqué issued after the meeting, the leaders expressed deep appreciation to the judiciary for its role in protecting democracy and ensuring that due process prevails within political institutions. They said the ruling has brought renewed confidence and integrity to the PDP’s internal operations.

The gathering noted that the judgment confirmed Chief Dan Osi Orbih as the authentic National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the PDP while declaring the appointment of Chief Emmanuel Ogidi null and void. It also validated the expulsion of Ali Odefa from the party, stressing that individuals expelled from the PDP have no authority to act or litigate on its behalf.

The court further clarified that all official communications to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be jointly signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary, with the latter serving as the main signatory to party documents. It also maintained that no valid national convention can take place unless all constitutional, electoral, and procedural requirements are fully met.

The leaders observed that the plaintiffs’ action was not interference in the party’s internal matters but a genuine effort to ensure that INEC fulfills its duty of promoting internal democracy among political parties. They viewed the judgment as a corrective step that would guide the PDP toward greater accountability and transparency.

At the end of their deliberations, the party elders resolved to accept and obey the court’s decision in full. They reaffirmed their trust in the judiciary as a stabilizing force in Nigeria’s democracy and extended a hand of reconciliation to all party members, urging unity and collective rebuilding.

They called on loyal members across the country to uphold the values of justice, fairness, and inclusion that form the foundation of the PDP. According to them, the judgment presents an opportunity for renewal and healing within the party.

The communiqué concluded with a pledge to restore the PDP’s original ideals as a democratic platform committed to national unity and good governance. The leaders also vowed to work together to reposition the party for future success and renewed public trust.
