Acting PDP Chairman Cancels Ibadan Convention After Court Ruling

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammed, has cancelled the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press briefing in Abuja, where Mohammed, alongside the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and some members of the National Working Committee, confirmed that the decision followed a recent Federal High Court judgment.

According to the party leadership, the PDP received the Certified True Copy of the judgment delivered by Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025. The legal opinion provided by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Ajibade K.A. (SAN), guided the decision to appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

Mohammed explained that the cancellation of the convention was necessary to avoid breaching the law while the appeal process is ongoing. He said proceeding with the Ibadan convention would amount to defying the court’s ruling, which the PDP does not intend to do.

He added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was part of the case, had been officially notified of the suspension in compliance with the court’s directive.

The acting chairman also mentioned that while a separate ex-parte order was issued by a High Court in Oyo State, the party would continue to act based on the subsisting Federal High Court judgment until further judicial clarification is given.

The PDP leadership said it remains committed to following due process and ensuring that all actions taken are in line with Nigeria’s constitution and democratic principles.
