INEC Presents Certificates of Return to Soludo, Deputy in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally presented certificates of return to Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, confirming their re-election in the November 8, 2025 governorship election.

The presentation took place on Tuesday at the INEC headquarters in Awka, Anambra State. The certificates were handed over by Kenneth Ikeagu, the Supervising National Commissioner in charge of the Anambra election. The event officially confirmed Soludo and Ibezim as the re-elected Governor and Deputy Governor of the state.

According to INEC, the presentation followed the provisions of Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires the Commission to issue certificates of return within 14 days to every candidate declared winner by the returning officer.

Soludo, who contested under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), emerged victorious after securing 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes. Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.

The election, which had 16 candidates from different political parties, recorded 2,788,864 registered voters, out of which 598,229 were accredited. INEC reported that 595,298 votes were cast, with 11,244 votes rejected across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Results announced by the Returning Officer, Professor Edoba Omoregie, showed that Soludo achieved a clean sweep, winning in all 21 local government areas.

Governor Soludo and his deputy, accompanied by their wives, received their certificates at the ceremony attended by party members, officials, and supporters.

The issuance of the certificates marked the official confirmation of Soludo and Ibezim’s second term in office, following their victory under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
