Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has called for disciplinary action against the senior naval officer involved in the confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a dispute over a piece of land in Abuja.

The incident occurred when Wike and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration visited a disputed property allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (retd). The naval officer on site reportedly prevented the minister and his team from accessing the area, leading to a heated exchange.

Reacting to the development in a video shared on Facebook on Wednesday, Asari described the officer’s conduct as unacceptable and contrary to military ethics. He urged the relevant authorities to reprimand and court-martial the officer for insubordination and for undermining civil authority.

Asari explained that the FCT Minister, by law, holds executive authority over the territory and serves as its chief security officer under the president. He noted that the minister was within his right to personally inspect the location and enforce land administration rules.
He stated that no individual, including a military officer, is above the law or exempt from the constitution, and that developing land in Abuja requires due approval and adherence to established procedures.
Asari further said that allowing such defiance to go unchecked would set a wrong precedent and erode respect for lawful authority. He maintained that the confrontation between the officer and the minister was avoidable and should not be tolerated in a democratic system governed by rule of law.
