The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has explained what happened during a stop-and-search operation at NNPC Junction on the Kubwa Expressway after an online post claimed that a naval officer, Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, was attacked. The Command said the story being shared online is not true and gives a wrong picture of the incident.

The police stated that the event occurred on November 16, 2025, around 6:15 p.m., when a patrol team stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry. The vehicle had a covered number plate and fully tinted windows, which caused officers to request the driver’s identity and an explanation. The driver refused to cooperate, made several calls and rolled up the windows without responding to the officers.

A short while later, three naval officers arrived at the scene. They calmly introduced the car’s occupant as a member of the Navy and took pictures and videos of the encounter before leaving. After confirmation, the police allowed the vehicle to move on, and the patrol team continued their duties without further issues. The Command said it was surprised to see the situation turned into claims of an assassination attempt.

The Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, urged residents and visitors in the FCT to work with police officers during lawful operations and avoid spreading false reports that may cause tension.
