The Niger State House of Assembly has started evaluating 30 commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for appointment into the State Executive Council. The screening took place at the Assembly Complex in Minna, led by Speaker Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkindaji.

On the first day, ten nominees were presented for consideration, with nine receiving unanimous approval from the members. Confirmed nominees represent various local government areas, including Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo from Lapai, Hadiza Asabe Mohammed from Bida, Kabiru Abbas from Mariga, and Nasiru Muazu from Chanchaga. Others cleared include Lawal Mohammed of Kontagora, Abubakar Musa of Paikoro, Barrister Maurice Magaji of Munya, Bashir Mohammed Lokogoma of Wushishi, and Murtala Bagana from Bida.

One nomination, that of Muhammad Agwara, was postponed due to ongoing legal matters involving the House. The Chief Whip, Abubakar Kabir, noted that the deferral was necessary to ensure the process adhered to legal protocols. The screening process is expected to continue on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Governor Bago had selected the nominees based on their competence, integrity, and dedication to public service. He expressed confidence that the approved commissioners would help drive the development of Niger State, contributing to his administration’s agenda of inclusive governance, merit-based appointments, and sustainable growth.
