The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has called on the newly appointed members of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to dedicate their efforts to improving development in their region in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister made the call during a courtesy visit from the Commission’s Board members and management team, led by Chairman Honorable Chibudom Nwuche, at his office in Abuja on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. He congratulated the Board and Management Team on their appointments, reminding them that their selection reflected trust and confidence from the President. Wike urged them to remain loyal to the President and ensure that their work contributes to meaningful development in the South-South region.
He instructed the Commission to avoid political interference and to manage public funds responsibly, noting that resources should be directed toward projects with clear financial backing and community benefit. Members were advised to consult local authorities, including state governors, to avoid duplicating projects and to ensure that their initiatives complement existing development efforts.
Wike also encouraged teamwork and courageous leadership among the Board members. He recognized the President’s decision to establish regional development commissions as a bold step toward accelerating progress in different parts of the country, pointing out that such initiatives require strong leadership and careful planning.
Earlier in the meeting, Chairman Nwuche expressed appreciation to the Minister for his support in setting up the Commission and appointing its members. He noted that the Board admires Wike’s result-focused approach and pledged to apply the same dedication in executing development projects in the South-South.
The Managing Director of the Commission, Miss Usoro Akpabio, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to the region’s development and thanked the Minister for his guidance. She assured that the Commission will work diligently to implement projects that improve infrastructure and bring tangible benefits to the communities across the South-South region.
