The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed security agencies to increase their activities across Abuja following the restart of Operation Sweep. The move is aimed at improving safety as more people travel and gather in the city during the festive season.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, explained that the operation would involve a combined team of the military, police, Department of State Services, and other security bodies. These teams have been sent to different parts of the city to monitor movements and respond quickly to any threats.

He stated that Wike has approved the necessary logistics for the operation, including fuel, vehicle maintenance, and allowances for officers taking part in the exercise. This support is expected to help the teams function properly and remain active in sensitive areas.

The task force has been directed to focus on places known to be vulnerable to kidnapping, robbery, and other forms of crime. Special attention will be given to hotspots, busy roads, and public areas to ensure residents and visitors feel safe during the festive period.
Dantawaye also disclosed that there will be checks on people roaming the streets under the claim of begging. Security agents, working with environmental agencies in Abuja, will profile such individuals to identify those with criminal intent. While genuine beggars will be handled according to the law, anyone found to be involved in criminal activities will be removed from the streets.
The operation has received full backing from the Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, who approved the exercise to tackle crime and maintain order in the capital city.
