The African Democratic Congress has confirmed the expulsion of Leke Abejide from the party. The National Working Committee ratified the decision of the Kogi State chapter after weeks of internal disputes. The state chapter had earlier written to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, requesting that Abejide’s parliamentary seat be declared vacant due to his alleged misconduct.

The lawmaker was accused of engaging in acts that went against party rules, including ignoring the Appeal Committee and making negative public statements about the party. In response, the party directed its Kogi leadership to begin filling vacant positions across the wards, local governments, and state levels in preparation for upcoming congresses.

Abejide’s team, however, rejected the expulsion, describing it as driven by individuals who no longer hold authority in the party. They maintained that his mandate remains valid and insisted that he was duly re-elected. Abejide’s advisers also questioned the constitutional basis cited for vacating his seat, arguing that the petitioners themselves had already been removed from party positions at all levels.

The dispute underscores ongoing internal tensions within the ADC in Kogi State, with Abejide’s camp asserting that party leadership failed to follow proper procedures, while the national leadership has maintained its decision to uphold discipline and integrity within the party ranks.
