Edo Govt Debunks Report Linking It To Illegal Arms Transfer

The Edo State Government has denied reports linking a police officer attached to the Government House to an illegal firearms movement intercepted in Kogi State. The state said the report was false and asked the public to disregard the information.

According to the government, the officer named in the report, Inspector Paul Elimwenga, was never part of the Government House security team. Official records from the Special Protection Unit Base 5 in Benin City showed he was posted to a private VIP residence in the Government Reserved Area, not to the Government House.

Security reports revealed that Elimwenga allegedly left his duty post without permission and abandoned his service rifle at his home. Authorities later traced his last known location to Warri in Delta State.

The state government said security agencies are now searching for him to ensure he is arrested and made to face the law. It added that it has zero tolerance for actions that threaten public safety or weaken security operations in the state.

The government also stated that Governor Monday Okpebholo expects discipline and professionalism from all security personnel working within Edo State, whether they are assigned to government offices or private duties.

Residents were advised to stay calm and avoid spreading false information while investigations continue.
