The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s rating of his three years in office, saying the governor’s public assessment does not match the reality on ground. The reaction came on Friday in Osogbo during a press briefing held by the party’s chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, who was represented by Kola Olabisi.

Adeleke had earlier addressed the people of Osun State in a broadcast marking his third year in office. In the message, he said he met the state in poor shape when he took over, pointing to issues such as unpaid pensions and salaries, weak infrastructure, low exam performance, poor healthcare services, corruption in the mining sector and the neglect of technology, sports and agriculture. He said these areas had since been revived under his watch and that Osun had become a model for good leadership.

But the APC said Adeleke’s account of progress was not true. The party argued that the state government had not recruited teachers and that the agriculture sector had been pushed aside. It also accused the governor of focusing mainly on projects that could draw huge public funds, mentioning flyovers and roads the party described as below standard.

The APC further said that most of the projects and appointments carried out by the governor were centred around his hometown and close family circle. It accused him of placing his community above the wider interest of the state.
The party stated that Osun residents had not seen the improvement Adeleke claimed and urged the public to look beyond the anniversary broadcast.
