The Inter-Party Advisory Council in Nigeria has returned Yusuf Dantalle as its national chairman after an election held on Monday at the council’s national secretariat in Abuja. The poll took place at a time when political parties are preparing for the 2027 general elections, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were present to observe the process.

Dantalle, who once contested for president under the Allied People’s Movement, won the seat after defeating Kenneth Udeze of the Action Alliance. The exercise also produced other members of the National Executive Committee, including Zainab Ibrahim as Deputy National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem as National Secretary, Maryam Bagel as Deputy National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku as National Treasurer, and others who will serve in key roles for the next two years.

The election was supervised by the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dan Nwanyanwu, who monitored the screening and voting process. Eleven contestants took part in the exercise, competing for nine positions, with some positions having only one candidate while others had two.

After the announcement, Dantalle expressed gratitude to party leaders for giving him another term. He noted that the council carried out several programmes during his first tenure, including the creation of directorates for women, youth, and persons with disabilities, and the adoption of a new constitution that introduced a system where a male principal must have a female deputy and vice versa. He also recalled the launch of a book on the history of political parties in Nigeria and the current production of a film marking 25 years of democratic practice within the council.
He stated that the new term will allow the council to expand its work and prepare ahead of the 2027 general elections through collaborations, media engagements, policy discussions, and more training activities. He added that he is ready to strengthen the council’s position and ensure it continues to serve as a united platform for all registered political parties.
Dantalle first won the chairmanship in 2023 after defeating the former chairman, Yabagi Sani. With his re-election, he will now lead the council for another two years as political activities increase across the country.
