The Federal Government on Wednesday brought former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory to face corruption charges involving about N5 billion. The case was filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, who accused Oduah and one other defendant of advance fee fraud and conspiracy.

According to the charges, the alleged offences took place in January 2014. Oduah was said to have obtained N2.4 billion from the Federal Ministry of Aviation through Broad Waters Resources after claiming the funds were meant for technical supervision. She was also accused of taking N1.6 billion and another N839 million through the same method, an action said to be against the Advance Fee Fraud Act.

Oduah was arraigned alongside another suspect, and both denied the allegations. After hearing the case, Justice Hamza Muazu granted her bail based on self-recognition but ruled that she must submit her passport to the court and cannot travel out of the country without permission.

The former minister was represented in court by lawyer Onyechi Ikpeazu, as the case continues under the supervision of the Federal Government.
