The United States Embassy in Abuja has warned Nigerians that engaging in visa fraud can lead to serious and lasting consequences, including permanent bans from entering the country. The embassy explained that giving false details or submitting fake documents during a visa application process violates US immigration laws and could prevent offenders from ever travelling to the United States.

The warning was shared through the embassy’s official social media platform on Monday, where it advised applicants to be truthful at all stages of the visa process. The embassy noted that dishonesty during applications is carefully reviewed and punished under existing immigration rules.

The advisory came on the same day the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar. Both officials discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to working together on shared concerns.

The embassy also noted that diplomatic talks between the United States and Nigeria continue amid growing attention on Nigeria’s security challenges. In recent months, some US lawmakers have raised concerns over attacks in parts of the country, particularly in the North and Middle Belt, calling for stronger cooperation to protect affected communities.
The embassy encouraged Nigerians seeking US visas to follow the rules and ensure that all information and documents submitted during the application process are genuine and accurate.
