Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports claiming he has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential election. The reports suggested that Atiku stepped aside in favour of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 election, and agreed to support a one-term presidency for Obi.
Atiku, who contested the 2023 election under the Peoples Democratic Party, made it clear that the claims were not true. His media adviser, Paul Ibe, reacted to the story by rejecting it and stating that it was false.
Ibe addressed the issue on Saturday through his verified X account, where he shared a screenshot of the report and dismissed it as fake. He made it clear that Atiku has not made any decision to quit the 2027 race or back any other candidate.
The clarification comes at a time when there are reports that Peter Obi may soon formally join the African Democratic Congress, adding to growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
