The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said he would soon make public the details of the peace agreement reached between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, before President Bola Tinubu.
Wike spoke during a thank-you visit to Tai, weeks after President Tinubu intervened in June to resolve the political crisis that had divided the state for months. According to the minister, the agreement was meant to restore calm and unity in Rivers, but he accused the governor of failing to fully respect what was agreed.
He said the people of Rivers State would soon be told exactly what was discussed and concluded at the meeting with the President. He warned residents against supporting politicians who fail to keep promises, saying such behaviour should not be encouraged in the name of politics.
The former Rivers governor also stated that the state was already preparing for the 2027 elections, adding that financial inducement would not determine electoral outcomes. He maintained that the will of the people would always be the deciding factor.
Wike explained that his visit to Tai was not for political campaigning but to appreciate the community for its support during the 2023 elections, which he described as difficult. He linked recent benefits enjoyed by the area, including the siting of a federal university and other developments, to the decisions taken during that period.
Earlier, Senator Barry Mpigi, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, praised President Tinubu and Wike for their backing of the zone, saying the area was experiencing improved attention and development. He assured Wike of continued loyalty from the district in pursuit of fairness and equity.
Also speaking, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Tai Constituency, Bernard Nbar, pledged the continued support of his constituents, describing the people of Tai as dependable and consistent.
The Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Mbakpone Okpe, thanked Wike for the visit and said the decision to support Tinubu in the 2023 election had brought lasting benefits to the area. He listed appointments, infrastructure projects, empowerment programmes and other gains, and added that the council was ready to support Tinubu and Wike’s political choices in future elections.
