The Osun State Police Command has cautioned political actors against any attempt to disrupt the planned resumption of local government workers across the state. The warning followed intelligence reports suggesting that some individuals were planning to cause tension and disorder at council secretariats.
The police said such actions could threaten public peace and would not be allowed. The alert came ahead of the January 5 resumption date announced by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, marking the end of nearly 11 months of strike that stalled council operations across Osun State.
According to the command, security personnel have been deployed to all local government secretariats to ensure a peaceful return to work. The officers are to protect workers from harassment, intimidation, or unlawful occupation of council facilities as activities resume.
The police also stated that only verified local government staff would be allowed access to the secretariats. Any non-staff found loitering within or around the premises would be treated as a security concern and dealt with according to the law.
The command assured residents that adequate measures are in place to maintain law and order, safeguard lives and property, and ensure that local government operations resume smoothly without interference.
