Kidnappers have taken Oba Simeon Olaonipekun, his son, and eight residents of Ifelodun Local Government Area, demanding ₦150 million for the ruler and his son and ₦300 million for the other residents. The attacks occurred days apart, with the first abduction in Adanla-Irese on December 26 and the second at the Aafin palace on December 31. During the palace attack, the traditional ruler’s wife was injured and hospitalized.
The kidnappings have caused fear among residents in Ifelodun and neighboring areas such as Isin, Edu, and parts of Kwara South, where such incidents have become increasingly frequent. Recent history shows a similar abduction in November 2025, when the Ojibara of Bayagan-Ile was held for weeks before release after negotiations.
Local security agencies, including the police, continue to investigate the incidents and work toward rescuing the abducted individuals. Authorities warn that paying ransom encourages criminal activity and urge families and the public to cooperate with ongoing security operations to ensure the safe recovery of those kidnapped.
The twin kidnappings in Kwara State raise concerns about growing insecurity in rural communities and the need for increased vigilance and support for law enforcement to prevent further attacks.
