Kwankwaso stated that after more than four decades in politics, neither he nor his supporters would accept a defection that does not come with a clear opportunity to contest for president or vice president in 2027. He said his support base across the country expects a move that reflects his long political journey and influence.
He disclosed that the All Progressives Congress had reached out to him about joining the party, but he turned down the approach because there was no clear offer that matched his ambition or values. According to him, discussions around minor appointments were not enough to justify such a major political shift.
Kwankwaso restated that the New Nigeria Peoples Party remains committed to the Kwankwasiyya philosophy, which focuses on improving the lives of the poor, supporting young people through education and jobs, boosting the economy, strengthening healthcare, and developing agriculture.
He added that the NNPP is preparing seriously for the 2027 general elections and described the coming polls as a nationwide effort that requires unity, especially in Kano State. He urged supporters to stay together to secure another electoral victory.
The former governor also reacted to reports of a planned defection by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing the move as a betrayal. He, however, called on his followers to remain calm and prayerful as political events continue to unfold in the state.
