Resign as Minister and Focus on Rivers Politics, APC Tells Wike

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has asked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to step back from matters involving Rivers State politics and focus on his ministerial duties. The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Wike and members of the APC in Rivers State.
Basiru said Wike has no authority within the APC and noted that he is not a member of the party. He reminded that, as National Secretary, he oversees the party’s affairs across Nigeria, including Rivers State, and that Wike should not interfere in the party’s internal matters.
The APC scribe also rejected claims linking him to alleged interest in the N600 billion state allocations, describing such claims as false and inconsistent with his record. He added that his history of public service and commitment to integrity would not allow him to be intimidated by anyone.
Basiru advised Wike to focus on his ministerial responsibilities instead of Rivers politics. He also instructed other APC members to avoid making derogatory statements about Governor Siminalayi Fubara or any other political figure, stressing that party officials should remain neutral in political disputes.
This response comes after Wike warned the APC National Secretary to stay clear of Rivers State politics, citing the need to protect state resources and maintain the support of Rivers residents for national leadership. The exchange reflects rising tension between Wike and party officials as the state prepares for future political contests.
