The Christian Association of Nigeria in Northern Nigeria has raised concern over reported plans by terrorist groups to carry out fresh attacks on Christian communities in parts of the region. The warning was issued after information suggested that the planned violence is aimed at causing fear and turning security challenges into religious conflict.
The alert was made public in Kaduna, where the Northern CAN Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, spoke to journalists about the situation. He explained that the alleged plans involve coordinated attacks in states such as Niger, Kwara, and Kogi, with the goal of creating tension between Christians and Muslims.
According to him, those behind the attacks want to divide Nigerians along religious lines instead of facing the real causes of insecurity in the country. He said such actions are meant to distract people from holding criminals and their sponsors accountable.
The CAN leader urged Nigerians not to fall into hatred or revenge but to remain calm and united. He called on citizens to demand stronger action from the government and security agencies to deal with those responsible for violence, regardless of their claims or identity.
He also stated that the loss of any life in Nigeria affects the entire nation, stressing that violence against one group harms everyone. He warned that attacks carried out in the name of religion destroy trust and weaken peaceful living among communities.
Rev. Hayab appealed to both Christians and Muslims in the North to stand together to protect peace. He said no group has the right to force others out of the region and encouraged people to speak out against anyone who kills or causes chaos under religious cover.
