Popular Fuji artiste, Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, has again asked Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to cancel the recent nomination process for the next Awujale of Ijebu, citing alleged irregularities.
Ayinde made the request in a letter dated January 14 and written by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu. He urged the governor to nullify the nomination meeting held on January 12, 2026, by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, saying the process did not follow the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law of 2021. He argued that cancelling the exercise would help avoid prolonged legal battles.
The musician stated that after the death of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, it became the turn of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to present candidates. He explained that members of the ruling house were earlier directed by the Ijebu Ode Local Government to hold a statutory meeting for nominations in line with custom and state regulations.
However, he alleged that during the meeting at a hotel in Ijebu Ode, he and other eligible members were denied access. According to him, security personnel were deployed at the venue, and entry was limited to selected individuals using special cards under a delegate system he said was never agreed upon by all members.
Ayinde maintained that the exclusion of eligible members made the nomination process unlawful and flawed, as it denied full participation by the ruling house. He therefore called on the governor to order a fresh exercise that would allow open and fair participation by all qualified members.
Earlier, Ayinde had approached a state High Court in Ijebu Ode to stop the selection process, but the court declined his request. He later withdrew the case.
Reacting to the letter, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Professor Fassy Yusuf, confirmed receiving it but dismissed the claims, saying they would not affect the ongoing process. Attempts to get a response from the state government were unsuccessful, as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs did not respond to calls or messages.
