A political support group loyal to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has removed his son, Abba Atiku Abubakar, from its ranks after he announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress on Thursday in Abuja. The group, known as the Atiku Haske Organisation, said the action was taken because Abba lacked the power to direct its members to leave their chosen political path.
The group made its position known on Sunday through a statement issued in Abuja by its initiator and convener, Mai Nagge Bakari. He explained that the organisation was formed to support Atiku Abubakar’s political ambition and that Abba Atiku was only invited to be part of it, not to lead or control it. According to him, Abba neither funded the group nor held its registration documents, making his directive invalid.
Trouble began after Abba publicly joined the APC and asked members of his political structure to defect with him. He also called for the support group to be renamed in favour of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. The Atiku Haske Organisation rejected the move and said it went against a collective decision earlier taken by its members to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and align with the African Democratic Congress.
The group stated that it remains committed to the ADC and has no plan to join any other party. It described Abba’s action as a breach of its rules and values, stressing that it would not follow him into the ruling party. As a result, the organisation announced his immediate removal and asked him to stop presenting himself as one of its members.
Abba Atiku had announced his defection at the National Assembly complex, where he was received by top APC leaders from the North-East. He later pledged support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid. Despite this, the Atiku Haske Organisation maintained that its loyalty remains with Atiku Abubakar and its chosen political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
