The African Democratic Congress in Bauchi State has rejected reports that its state chairman, Hassan Haruna, has been removed from office. The party said the claim is false and blamed it on suspended and expelled members who are attempting to divide the party.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend, Haruna said the affected members have opened what he described as an illegal factional office and are presenting an unauthorised person as the party leader. He stated that the group is acting with the support of some elected officials from other political parties in an effort to weaken the ADC in the state.
According to him, those involved were disciplined for alleged misconduct and no longer have the authority to act on behalf of the party. He explained that the ADC constitution clearly outlines the process for removing a sitting chairman and said none of those procedures were followed in his case.
Haruna also said all 20 local government chairmen in the state remain loyal to the current leadership. He described the activities of the faction as an attempt to disrupt the party’s unity and growing support in Bauchi.
The party leadership urged members of the public to ignore statements or publications coming from the group, insisting they do not represent the ADC in the state. It assured supporters that the party remains united, committed to internal democracy, and focused on its goals, adding that any further disciplinary actions would follow due process.
