Governor Alex Otti has expressed confidence that Abia State will record greater progress after his tenure ends in 2031. He said his administration is laying a strong base that will allow the next government to achieve more than he has done.
The governor spoke during a reception service organised in his honour by the Assemblies of God Church in Okaiuga–Nkwoegwu, Umuahia North. He said his government is still in its early stage and that the period ahead will bring rapid development across the state. According to him, Abia has entered a new phase where long-standing challenges are being addressed.
Otti stated that the period of stagnation in the state has come to an end and that Abia is moving forward. He said the progress made so far shows that the state will not return to past practices. He added that leadership is guided by timing and that the current moment marks the beginning of major transformation for Abia.
The governor also spoke on faith and leadership, saying that success comes when the time is right. He explained that human effort alone is not enough and that progress happens when events align properly.
During the event, the church requested a bus to support its evangelism work and land for a prayer camp. In response, Otti confirmed that a Hummer bus would be provided within the week through the support of Prince Arthur Eze. He also instructed his Chief of Staff to work with the church leaders to sort out arrangements for land allocation.
Otti thanked churches across Abia State for their support and appreciated the Assemblies of God Church for organising the reception in his honour. He said religious bodies have continued to play a role in supporting peace and progress in the state.
Earlier, the District Superintendent of the church, Rev. Kenneth Ogbudu, described the event as a moment of gratitude and recognition. He said Otti’s leadership has brought a new approach to governance in Abia State. According to him, recent administrations have differed, but the current government has introduced clear changes in how public affairs are handled.
Ogbudu said road projects abandoned for many years have been revived, helping to reconnect communities and improve movement and business activities. He added that economic activities have increased, especially in Aba, making the state more attractive to investors.
He also noted that the government has improved how public funds are managed and that salaries and pensions are now paid regularly. According to him, workers and retirees have regained confidence due to these changes, while public systems have become more orderly.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including the governor’s wife, Priscilla Otti, lawmakers, members of the State House of Assembly, commissioners, advisers, and senior government officials.
