Justice Simeon Amadi, the Chief Judge of Rivers State, on Thursday refused a request from the Rivers State House of Assembly to constitute a judicial panel to probe Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers had asked the chief judge to set up a seven-member panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the governor and his deputy as part of ongoing political tensions in the state.
However, the chief judge declined the request, explaining that a court order was already in place and made it improper for him to take such a step at this time.
The development comes amid moves by the Rivers State House of Assembly linked to impeachment efforts against the governor, which have continued to deepen the political crisis in the state.
