The Emeka Beke-led faction of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has asked Governor Siminalayi Fubara to urgently summon a stakeholders’ meeting of the party to guide its activities going forward.
The faction said the meeting had become necessary following recent clarification on party leadership at the state level. The call was made in a statement released in Port Harcourt by the group’s publicity secretary, Dalington Nwauju.
The appeal followed comments made by the Presidential Spokesman, Daniel Bwala, during a live television programme on Thursday. Bwala stated that President Bola Tinubu recognises all sitting governors as leaders of their political parties in their states, regardless of whether they belong to the ruling party or the opposition. He also warned against actions that could interfere with Governor Fubara’s duties, adding that the President does not tolerate domineering behaviour.
Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC faction praised President Tinubu for maintaining party rules and traditions by recognising the governor as the party leader in the state. The group said the position supported its long-standing stance since Fubara aligned with the party.
The faction also said the President’s position aligned with the direction of the party’s national leadership and would help restore order within the Rivers APC. According to the group, the clarification should end false claims surrounding the party’s leadership structure in the state.
The faction therefore urged Governor Fubara, in his role as party leader, to convene a meeting of stakeholders to chart a clear path for the party.
In addition, the group repeated its call for the resignation of the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, over comments he made regarding the impeachment process involving the Rivers State governor and his deputy. The faction argued that his position conflicted with party values.
The statement also reminded the party’s National Working Committee of existing court rulings on the leadership of the Rivers APC and called for the immediate scheduling of congresses at the ward, local government and state levels to resolve internal disputes.
The APC in Rivers State remains divided, with one faction led by Emeka Beke and another led by Tony Okocha, which is recognised by the party’s national leadership.
