Rabiu Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has dismissed speculation about his political future after the exit of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and several party members from the NNPP.
Kwankwaso spoke at his residence in Kano shortly after the governor’s resignation became public. He told supporters that his political journey has always been driven by service to ordinary Nigerians and not by money or personal advantage. He said his long years in politics were built on values and commitment, adding that he would not abandon those beliefs regardless of pressure or temptation.
He explained that the Kwankwasiyya Movement has survived because of shared goals and loyalty, not financial rewards. According to him, those who remain in the movement do so because they believe in its purpose and future.
The former Kano governor also called on his followers to begin preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. He warned them against relaxing, noting that political events in Kano show the need for early planning and unity.
Kwankwaso said some forces were determined to undo what had been built over time in the state, urging supporters to stay firm and continue working towards their goals. He assured them that he would remain committed to defending the interests of the masses and would not align with individuals or groups he believes take advantage of the people.
His remarks came amid growing political tension in Kano following the resignation of Governor Yusuf, local government chairmen, lawmakers, and aides from the NNPP, a development that has sparked debate about the party’s future in the state.
