President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a renewed drive to tackle insecurity in Nigeria, saying terrorism and banditry must be defeated for the country to achieve economic growth and stability. He made this known while opening the Second National Economic Council conference in Abuja.
The meeting brought together state governors, senior federal officials and development partners to discuss the Renewed Hope National Development Plan for 2026 to 2030. Tinubu said security threats facing the country do not reflect Nigeria’s values and assured that his administration is strengthening security systems to reclaim unsafe areas and rebuild confidence among investors.
The president stated that states and local governments will play a major role in the success of the development plan, noting that real progress will come from the grassroots. He explained that policies must lead to job creation, improved food supply and broad-based growth that reaches ordinary people.
Tinubu described the Renewed Hope National Development Plan as the next stage in Nigeria’s policy direction. He added that while states are expected to design and carry out action plans, the federal government will support them to speed up national progress.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who leads the National Economic Council, also spoke at the event. He said closer cooperation among federal and state governments, as well as development partners, is needed to achieve stable public finances and attract more investment.
Shettima noted that the development plan provides a clear structure for rebuilding the economy and ensuring that the benefits of growth are felt by citizens across the country. The conference is expected to help align national and state goals, strengthen cooperation and produce practical steps for steady and inclusive development.
