Fubara Vows to Finish Port Harcourt Ring Road by October, Calls Wike ‘My Oga’

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday in Port Harcourt said the Port Harcourt Ring Road project will be completed and opened to the public by October 2026.

He spoke after inspecting the road project, which stretches over 50 kilometres and passes through about five local government areas of the state.

The governor said the project is being pursued to reduce traffic pressure in the state capital and improve movement between Port Harcourt and nearby communities.

Fubara explained that the road was conceived by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and remains a key part of the state’s development plan.

He said completing the project is important to his administration and to the long-term growth of Rivers State. The governor noted that the construction firm handling the project, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, has assured the government that the October timeline can be met if funds continue to be released as planned.

He added that the state government will keep providing the needed financial support to ensure work continues without delays, despite the challenges facing the state.

According to him, the inspection was carried out to assess how much work has been done, especially as the original completion period of 36 months is nearing its end.

Fubara said the Ring Road will serve as a major alternative route around Port Harcourt when completed.

He explained that the road is expected to ease congestion within the city, improve access to residential and industrial areas, and strengthen the transport system across the state.

He also restated his resolve to complete the project in line with the vision set by the former governor, saying the goal is to deliver lasting benefits to residents of Rivers State now and in the future.
