Inside the Secret Minna Meeting Between Atiku and Makinde – Fayose Speaks

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on February 11, 2026, revealed details of a private meeting that took place in Minna, Niger State, between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The meeting, which held a day earlier, focused on political plans ahead of the 2027 general election and possible alignments within the African Democratic Congress.

According to Fayose, the location and those present at the meeting were carefully selected to create trust and broad acceptance among those involved. The discussion reportedly centered on the ADC presidential ticket and the structure of the party moving forward.

Fayose disclosed that Atiku is confident of securing the ADC presidential ticket after steps were taken to prevent the zoning of the position. He also stated that Peter Obi is not likely to accept the position of running mate to Atiku and may also face challenges gaining support in the North as a successor.

As part of the talks, Makinde reportedly agreed to join the ADC with the understanding that he would be considered for the vice-presidential slot as Atiku’s running mate. The proposal is expected to be presented to Atiku’s close political allies for further review and approval.

Fayose further revealed that Makinde pledged financial support to the party. He allegedly offered an initial sum of N10 billion to support the early activities of the ADC, with the funds to be released in two phases. He also indicated readiness to provide more funding once full campaign activities begin.

In addition, Makinde is said to have assured Atiku of his ability to influence party delegates in the Southwest during the party’s primary election. He also reportedly promised to use his family ties in Rivers State to secure support from delegates in the South-South region.

The Oyo governor was also said to have argued that his presence on the ticket could split votes in the Southwest during the general election, which may improve the ADC’s chances at the national level.

Fayose added that both leaders agreed to hold another meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the next two weeks to continue their discussions.
