Fubara Clears Cabinet, Sacks Commissioners and Advisers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday dissolved the State Executive Council and removed all Special Advisers from office in Port Harcourt.

The decision was announced through a government statement issued the same day.

The governor directed all affected commissioners and special advisers to hand over their duties immediately to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officials in their respective ministries. The move brings an end to the tenure of the current cabinet members.

Fubara also appointed Mr Onwuka Nzeshi as the new Chief Press Secretary. His predecessor, Nelson Chukwudi, was relieved of his position. No official reason was given for the change in the media office.

In the announcement, the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the executive council for their service to the state and wished them well in their future plans.

The cabinet reshuffle comes amid ongoing political developments in Rivers State. It follows a recent peace meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the lingering political crisis in the state.

The President has intervened several times in the dispute involving the governor, his former political ally, and members of the State House of Assembly.

With the dissolution of the cabinet, Fubara is expected to submit a new list of commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule for screening and confirmation.

Reports indicate that some loyalists of the former governor may be considered in the new cabinet as part of efforts to resolve internal party differences, while some former commissioners could also return.

The latest action marks a fresh phase in the political situation in Rivers State as the governor prepares to reconstitute his executive team.
