Wike: FCT Magistrate Courts to Be Completed by June

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday in Abuja said new Magistrate Court buildings under construction in Asokoro, Jabi and Garki will be completed and delivered by June 2026. He made this known during an inspection tour of the project sites across the capital city.

Wike visited the three locations to assess the level of work done so far and expressed satisfaction with the progress made by contractors. He explained that the projects are part of federal efforts to strengthen the judiciary by providing adequate facilities for court operations.

At the Asokoro site, the minister observed that the terrain presents engineering challenges but said work is advancing despite the difficult landscape.

He later moved to Jabi, where construction of a new Magistrates’ court complex began in late 2025. The final stop was in Garki, where he noted that construction had reached an advanced stage and commended the quality and pace of the work.

The projects form part of wider plans to improve infrastructure within the judicial sector in the FCT. In addition to the Magistrate Court buildings, the government is also constructing 40 housing units for judges serving at the FCT High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court.

The aim is to provide accommodation and create more courtrooms to support the work of the judiciary.

Wike stated that the intervention is being carried out under the direction of President Bola Tinubu to ensure that the justice system has proper facilities to function effectively.

He dismissed concerns that such projects could affect the independence of the judiciary, saying it is the duty of the executive arm to provide infrastructure for all arms of government.

According to him, improving court facilities is part of a broader development plan in the FCT. He listed ongoing road construction, school rehabilitation and upgrades in the health sector as other projects currently underway.

He added that major road networks linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada are also progressing well and are expected to be completed by June 2026.

The minister said the administration remains focused on delivering key infrastructure projects within set timelines to improve public service delivery in the capital territory.
