2027 Elections: Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Make Every Vote Count

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and actively participate in the 2027 general elections to ensure that all votes are properly counted.

Obi urged voters to stay at polling units after casting their ballots to witness the counting and transmission of results.

The call comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the dates for the elections, with the presidential and National Assembly polls scheduled for February 20, 2027, and governorship and state assembly elections set for March 6, 2027.

Obi stressed that citizens must monitor the process to prevent any actions that could undermine the electoral system.

Obi also warned that individuals attempting to obstruct the electoral process could face legal consequences.

He urged Nigerians to hold those undermining the elections accountable to protect the country’s democratic future.

The former Anambra State governor made these remarks in the context of growing public interest in ensuring transparency and fairness ahead of the next elections.

The appeal reinforces the importance of civic responsibility and participation in safeguarding democracy.

INEC has already released the timetable for party primaries, which will take place between May 22 and June 20, 2026. The commission has also set guidelines to ensure the elections are conducted according to the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 polls, Obi’s message underscores the role of citizens in protecting the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that the outcome reflects the will of the people.
