2027: Taraba Gov Kefas Pledges Support to Tinubu re-election

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has declared his readiness to deliver his state to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

He spoke on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa after meeting with the President for the first time since his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.

Kefas said his support base in Taraba remains strong despite complaints from some former party loyalists who opposed his move to the ruling party. He maintained that he had put plans in place to ensure victory in the next election and expressed confidence that both he and the President would secure wide backing from voters in the state.

The governor explained that his visit to the President focused on security, the welfare of Taraba residents, and national matters. He described the meeting as productive and said it was part of efforts to strengthen ties between the state and the Federal Government. According to him, the President showed interest in the progress of Taraba, especially in agriculture, which he said remains a key area of opportunity for the state.

Kefas noted that Taraba has vast farmland and natural resources that can support the country’s agricultural drive. He gave an update on his administration’s mechanised farming programme, stating that crop yields have improved following the purchase and distribution of tractors to farmers. He added that the next phase will involve setting up processing plants within the state to handle farm produce locally.

On security, the governor said conditions have improved compared to the period before he assumed office. He stated that residents now move more freely, although he admitted that isolated cases of crime still occur in some areas.

Kefas was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the PDP but formally joined the APC on January 31, 2026. His defection ceremony, held in Jalingo, was attended by senior party leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima. The move followed an earlier postponement due to national security concerns at the time.

With his alignment now with the ruling party, Kefas said he is committed to working with the Federal Government while preparing the ground for the 2027 elections.
