13 Arrested Over Deadly APC Ward Congress Attack in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 13 men in connection with the violent attack that occurred during the All Progressives Congress ward congress in Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area.

The incident happened on February 18 and led to the death of two people, while three others sustained injuries.

The arrests were confirmed on Saturday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh. He explained that the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, following reports of the deadly clash.

According to the police, the attack not only claimed two lives but also caused damage to property. In response, the commissioner ordered an intensive operation aimed at tracking down those responsible.

Officers from the Idanre Police Division conducted surveillance and acted on intelligence gathered from various sources before carrying out coordinated raids at different locations.

The suspects, all male, are currently in police custody. Investigators are taking statements from them as part of efforts to determine their level of involvement and identify any other persons who may have played a role in the violence.

The police said further steps would be taken once investigations are completed.
The command stated that it remains committed to ensuring that those linked to the attack face justice.

It also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose guidance and assistance were said to have strengthened the state command’s response to security challenges.

Residents of Idanre and other parts of Ondo State were urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

The police warned that any individual or group planning actions that could disturb public peace would face firm action under the law.
