Okpebholo’s Project Sets Stage for Tinubu’s Second Term – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday in Benin City said Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has set the stage for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

He spoke during the commissioning of 54 construction machines bought by the Edo State Government for use in the 18 local government areas.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, attended the event where the equipment was handed over to council chairmen. He said the governor’s decision to provide tools for local governments would boost development in rural communities and improve economic activities at the grassroots level.

According to him, the investment in local councils shows that the state government is focused on taking development beyond the state capital.

He said efforts that improve the lives of people in villages and small towns would strengthen support for the ruling party and increase the chances of President Tinubu returning to office.

Wike also referred to recent political events in the Federal Capital Territory, noting that the All Progressives Congress won the majority of councillorship seats.

He compared this with the performance of other political actors, saying the President has been focused on development projects in Abuja.

Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, described the purchase of the heavy-duty machines as part of his administration’s plan to improve governance at the grassroots.

He said the move aligns with his SHINE Agenda and is aimed at ensuring that every local government has the tools needed to carry out projects.

He stated that growth should not remain only at the centre but must reach rural communities across the state. He explained that the equipment would be used for opening rural roads, fixing drainage systems, improving sanitation and speeding up small infrastructure works in different councils.

The governor added that the machines belong to the people of Edo State and must be used properly. He called for transparency in their deployment and proper maintenance to ensure they serve their purpose.

Speaking on behalf of the local government chairmen, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Edo State and Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area, Sunny Ekpeson, said the event marked a new phase in grassroots governance.

He linked the development to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and said council leaders were ready to carry federal policies to communities at the local level.

The event drew political leaders and supporters who see the partnership between the state government and the Federal Government as a boost for the ruling party ahead of future elections.
