Masari had earlier been appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs in 2023. With the new role, he will now work alongside Yau Darazo, who was appointed to the same position by the President in July 2023.

The two are expected to handle political matters and support the administration’s engagement with political stakeholders.

Masari is known as a close associate of the President and has been active in the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He previously served as the welfare secretary of the party during the time Adams Oshiomhole was the national chairman of the APC.

The new role places Masari higher in the structure of presidential aides. Special Advisers usually handle broader responsibilities and are allowed direct interaction with the President on matters related to their duties.

Masari, who is from Katsina State, has been involved in several political activities connected to the APC, especially within the North-West region. His work over the years has placed him among the political figures within the President’s circle.

His appointment as Special Adviser does not require approval from the Senate because presidential aides are appointed directly by the President and serve at his discretion.
