Tinubu assures military Nigeria will defeat terrorism despite Borno attacks

President Bola Tinubu on Friday assured Nigeria’s military and paramilitary agencies that the country will overcome terrorism and banditry despite the recent deadly attacks in Borno State. The President gave the assurance in Abuja during an interfaith breaking of fast held at the State House with service chiefs and heads of paramilitary organisations.

During the gathering, Tinubu spoke about the security situation in the country and the recent incidents in Borno State where attacks by terrorists led to the loss of lives. He said the nation would overcome the security challenges and expressed confidence that the efforts of the armed forces would lead to success against insurgents and bandits operating in different parts of the country.

The President also revealed that he had contacted the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, to sympathise with the state following the attacks. He said the call was made to show support to the governor and the people of Borno who were affected by the incident.

Tinubu also acknowledged the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and other security agencies who continue to confront violent groups across the country. He noted that many of them spend long periods away from their families while carrying out operations aimed at protecting the country and its citizens.

The President expressed appreciation for the commitment of the security personnel, stating that their dedication to defending the nation would not be forgotten. He added that the government recognises the difficult conditions many officers face while serving in different operational areas.

Tinubu also commended the leadership of the armed forces for their continued efforts in addressing security threats and protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

According to him, the government remains aware of the challenges confronting military personnel, including accommodation shortages and other welfare issues.

He stated that the welfare of soldiers and their families would remain an important matter for the government. Tinubu noted that steps are being taken to address some of the difficulties faced by security personnel as part of broader efforts to support them in their duties.

While speaking to the service chiefs, the President also linked the country’s security situation to ongoing economic reforms. He explained that the early stage of the reforms was difficult and created economic pressure for many citizens, but he said the situation had improved and the country was beginning to recover.

Tinubu told the gathering that the sacrifices made by citizens and security personnel are contributing to the progress being recorded. He said the country had moved past the most difficult stage and that the future looked more hopeful.
The President also spoke about Nigeria’s history of overcoming difficult moments.

He said the country has often faced serious challenges but has managed to overcome them through unity and cooperation among its people.

Tinubu further mentioned that the government has recently taken steps to support the military by approving resources aimed at improving their ability to carry out operations. According to him, these efforts are intended to strengthen the fight against terrorism and other security threats.

The interfaith breaking of fast brought together members of the Federal Executive Council, leaders of the armed forces, heads of paramilitary organisations and other senior government officials who joined the President for the Ramadan gathering at the State House in Abuja.
