Wike confirms appointments of 1,659 FCTA workers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointment for 1,659 employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration after they successfully participated in a confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

The decision was announced on Sunday through a statement released by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

The confirmation process followed an examination organised by the commission on February 28, 2026, for workers whose appointments were still awaiting confirmation.

According to information provided by the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, a total of 2,512 staff members were invited to take part in the exercise. However, only 2,281 of those invited attended the examination.

After the assessment was completed and the results reviewed, the commission confirmed the appointments of 1,659 workers. These employees are now fully recognised as permanent staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration following the approval granted by the minister.

During the exercise, it was discovered that 224 officers who were invited to the examination did not appear for the assessment. The absence of these individuals raised questions within the commission about the authenticity of some staff records.

Officials suspect that some of the missing names could belong to ghost workers who may have been added to the system without actually working for the administration.

Further details provided by the commission revealed that some of the workers who took the examination had been employed several years earlier. According to the commission, some of them joined the FCTA workforce as far back as 2016 and 2019.

Others were recruited not long before Wike assumed office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory in August 2023.

The commission also disclosed that additional steps are being taken to improve career progression within the FCTA workforce. Plans have already been concluded to conduct promotion exercises for both the 2025 and 2026 service years.

These promotion activities received approval from the minister and are expected to proceed in line with ongoing efforts to improve conditions for staff within the administration.

Workers who participated in the confirmation examination have been advised to check the status of their results through the official website of the FCT Civil Service Commission.

The website was provided to allow candidates to confirm whether their names appear on the list of employees whose appointments have been formally approved.

The development follows earlier measures taken to address staff welfare within the Federal Capital Territory Administration. In January, the minister approved the promotion of more than 2,000 workers after a separate promotion examination conducted between November 25 and November 29, 2025.

Officials believe that these actions are part of broader efforts by the administration to improve staff development, ensure proper record management within the civil service, and strengthen the workforce responsible for running government operations in the Federal Capital Territory.
