PDP BoT Holds Emergency Meeting After Appeal Court Ruling

On Tuesday in Abuja, the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party held an emergency meeting following a recent judgment by the Court of Appeal concerning the party’s national convention.

The gathering took place at the lodge of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and brought together several senior members of the party to discuss the situation and possible next steps.

The meeting was presided over by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara. Among those present were Tanimu Turaki, acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, former Deputy National Chairman Bode George, former Minister of Information Jerry Gana, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, along with other party leaders.

During the meeting, party leaders reviewed the outcome of the Court of Appeal decision delivered on Monday. The ruling supported an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court that stopped the party from conducting its planned national convention.

The appellate court also dismissed the appeal filed by the faction led by Turaki, which claims to be the legitimate leadership of the party following the convention held in Ibadan last year where members of the National Working Committee were elected..

Before the Board of Trustees meeting, the caretaker committee headed by Turaki addressed the media and reacted to the court decision. Members of the committee maintained that they would continue with preparations for the party’s national convention scheduled to hold later in the month despite the court ruling.

Following the Appeal Court decision, the Turaki faction disclosed plans to take the matter to the Supreme Court. According to the group, its legal team has begun steps to challenge the judgment at the country’s highest court.

The emergency meeting in Abuja formed part of ongoing consultations within the party as leaders attempt to address internal disagreements and determine the future direction of the PDP ahead of upcoming political activities.
