Adeleke Says Achievements Justify His Re-election Bid in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced his intention to seek re-election in the August 15, 2026, governorship poll, citing the accomplishments of his administration as justification.

The announcement came during a Wednesday meeting with a delegation from the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADS), Osun State Council, in the state capital, Osogbo.

The governor received the delegation led by the National Vice President of the society, Asiwaju Justice Adeigbe (Rtd), and the state chairman, Chief Daud Oladapo, alongside other members. During the visit, Adeleke called for support and prayers from the society as political activities ahead of the election formally commence.

Governor Adeleke also presented a refreshed Five-Point Agenda designed to guide his administration if re-elected.

The agenda covers the welfare and empowerment of youth, women, and workers, consolidation of infrastructure for citizens’ wellbeing, expansion of agro-industrial programs, provision of affordable and quality health and education services, and the creation of a safer and more supportive business environment to generate jobs.

He explained that the performance of his government during the first term forms the basis of his re-election bid. Among the achievements listed were substantial empowerment of cooperatives with nearly four billion naira, support for community development associations through grassroots health and infrastructure projects, and the implementation of the Imole Medical Outreach that served nearly eighty thousand residents.

Adeleke also highlighted progress in agriculture and rural development, including distribution of cocoa seedlings, provision of tractors to farmers, and rural projects under the O-RAMP program.

Reforms in governance and public services were also mentioned, such as the 45-day window for acquiring Certificates of Occupancy, revival of the Osun Free Trade Zone, digitization of tax collection, and the introduction of the SIFMIS payroll system.

Infrastructure improvements under his administration include over 350 kilometres of roads constructed, three flyover bridges completed, rehabilitation of waterworks, drilling of 332 boreholes across wards, renovation of schools and health centers, and settlement of outstanding salaries and pensions inherited from the previous government.

Governor Adeleke assured residents that his administration would continue inclusive governance and implement development initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare if granted another term.

Speaking on behalf of the ADS, the state secretary, Dr. Afeez Akande, expressed satisfaction with the governor’s performance. He noted that the society had been monitoring government projects and appreciated the consistent timelines and administrative discipline demonstrated in the execution of programs.

Dr. Akande further pointed to ongoing road dualization projects, especially along the Iwo axis, as efforts capable of stimulating economic growth and providing visible benefits to communities.

The delegation pledged its support for the governor, commending the administration for prioritizing citizens and pursuing projects that show practical results.

The meeting concluded with mutual assurances of continued collaboration between the government and the society, as Adeleke formally began his campaign for re-election in Osun State.
