Lagos Residents March Streets, Protest ‘No Light, No Life’ Amid Power Outages

Residents of Lagos took to the streets on Thursday to protest against the frequent electricity outages affecting the state.

The demonstration, which drew mainly young people, occurred in the Fadeyi area, where protesters carried placards and marched to show their frustration with the inconsistent power supply.

The protest comes amid growing concerns that the unreliable electricity is harming businesses and daily life. Residents called for stable and reliable electricity, expressing that the ongoing power failures were affecting both households and local economic activities.

The placards carried by the protesters demanded an end to estimated billing and irregular electricity provision, reflecting the urgency of the situation for residents and business owners alike.

This public outcry follows similar demonstrations in other states across Nigeria. In Osun State, members of the Nigerian Youth Congress protested the lack of steady power, noting the economic consequences of unreliable electricity.

Business owners in Delta State’s Effurun and Uvwie areas also staged peaceful protests against high electricity costs and the erratic supply.

Industry leaders have warned that the situation could worsen in the coming weeks due to gas supply disruptions to thermal power plants, linked to unpaid debts by power generation companies.

The ongoing electricity crisis has created widespread concern among Nigerians who rely on consistent power for their homes and businesses, prompting growing calls for government intervention and solutions from electricity providers.
