Omisore Ends Legal Challenge on APC Osun Governorship Primary

On Thursday, Iyiola Omisore’s campaign team announced that the former senator had withdrawn his lawsuit contesting the disqualification of some aspirants from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Osun State.

The suit, which was filed in the Federal High Court in Osogbo, sought to question the legality of the screening panel’s decision that reportedly disqualified seven of the eight aspirants, including Omisore.

The case was filed to challenge the APC’s screening criteria, which Omisore’s team argued went beyond constitutional requirements. The suit requested that the court nullify his alleged disqualification and compel the party to allow him to participate in its governorship primary.

It also sought to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising any primary election conducted by APC without including him as a candidate.

The lawsuit became publicly known after a court log listing scheduled matters for March 2 appeared online. It was filed by Omisore’s lawyer, Kolawole Salami, before Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi.

The campaign organisation later confirmed that the case was withdrawn following interventions by senior APC leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande.

The withdrawal aims to maintain unity within the party as preparations continue for the August 15 governorship election in Osun. The campaign team urged party members and the public to disregard reports suggesting that the case was still active. Party leaders continue to encourage cooperation and adherence to the party’s processes ahead of the election.

This development marks a step toward consolidating APC’s governorship race in Osun, with party officials working to ensure a smooth primary process. The withdrawal also signals Omisore’s willingness to respect party decisions after discussions with senior leaders.
