Taraba PDP Congress in Chaos After Two Chairmen Announced

Confusion broke out on Saturday during the Peoples Democratic Party congress in Taraba State after two different individuals were announced as the party’s chairman.

The development happened during the congress organised to produce new party executives, leaving delegates and members uncertain about the outcome of the exercise.

The incident occurred when members of the congress committee began announcing the results of the process meant to select the party’s leadership in the state. During the proceedings, one member of the committee declared Dr. Victor Samuel Falack as the consensus candidate for the position of state chairman.

Party members and delegates present at the venue welcomed the announcement and believed the process had been concluded. Many of them applauded the declaration, assuming that Falack had been officially endorsed as the party’s new chairman in the state.

However, the situation changed shortly after when another member of the congress committee arrived at the venue from Abuja and made a different announcement. The official declared another individual as the chairman of the party, creating confusion among the delegates and supporters present.

The sudden change led to strong reactions from party members, many of whom questioned how two different names could be announced for the same position. Delegates began demanding an explanation from the committee about the conflicting announcements.

The disagreement soon led to heated exchanges among members at the congress venue. Several supporters insisted that the earlier declaration of Falack as consensus chairman should remain valid, arguing that the process had already been concluded.

As tensions continued to rise, some aggrieved party members protested the development by leaving the venue. Reports indicated that the protesters insisted that the first announcement should be respected and rejected the introduction of another candidate.

Some party members also claimed that the person later announced as chairman was not widely known within the party structure in the state. They accused the committee of trying to introduce a candidate without the agreement of delegates.

Attempts by some party officials to restore calm at the venue were not successful as the atmosphere remained tense. The disagreement among delegates and supporters continued as members demanded clarification from the congress committee.

As of the time the event ended, the final outcome of the congress had not been clearly resolved. Many party members called on the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party to step in and address the situation by providing clear direction on who should be recognised as the state chairman.
