Lamido Urges PDP to Accept Wike’s Caretaker Plan

Former governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sule Lamido, has called on members of the party to accept the caretaker committee arrangement linked to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

He made the call on Sunday while speaking about the current situation in the party and the need for members to work together.

Lamido spoke during a Ramadan Iftar gathering with party officials and supporters in Bamaina, his hometown in Jigawa State. The meeting provided an opportunity for discussions about the challenges facing the party and possible steps toward restoring unity among its members.

According to Lamido, the party should focus on reconciliation and cooperation rather than allowing disagreements to weaken its structure. He said party members must work toward healing internal divisions so that the party can regain strength and stability.

Lamido described Wike as a politician who took advantage of the leadership gap that appeared when the tenure of the party’s National Working Committee ended. He explained that when the NWC term expired, the structure connected to Wike remained the only visible arrangement within the party.

The former governor noted that the situation created tension among party members but insisted that dialogue should be the way forward. He advised members to speak with all key figures within the party, including Wike, in order to resolve the crisis and keep the party united.

Lamido also said that personal disagreements with individuals should not stop members from working together for the good of the party. He maintained that reconciliation should remain the priority and that members must approach discussions with a spirit of cooperation.

He further urged party leaders and members to put aside their differences and rebuild trust within the organisation. According to him, unity among members is necessary if the party hopes to remain strong and competitive in Nigeria’s political space.

The call comes at a time when internal disagreements have continued to affect the party, with different groups expressing varying views on the direction of its leadership and structure. Lamido’s remarks were aimed at encouraging members to find common ground and strengthen the party through dialogue and cooperation.
