The All Progressives Congress has confirmed that the current zoning arrangement for positions in its National Working Committee will remain in place as the party prepares for its 2026 National Convention.
The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja through a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the party, the zoning formula already contained in the 2026 schedule of nationwide congresses, the national convention and other related activities will continue to guide the selection of officials during the convention.
The party said the arrangement will apply to positions within the National Working Committee across the various states and geopolitical zones.
The APC explained that the decision was taken to provide direction for individuals who plan to contest for national positions within the party. By keeping the zoning system, the party aims to maintain order within its internal process as preparations continue for the convention where new national officers are expected to emerge.
The statement also advised party members who wish to run for any national office to follow the zoning structure when picking up and submitting their expression of interest and nomination forms.
Aspirants were urged to carefully follow the arrangement to avoid issues during the screening and selection stages of the process.
Party officials said the zoning pattern remains part of the internal guidelines meant to guide leadership distribution across the country.
The arrangement divides party positions among states within different geopolitical zones to ensure that various regions are represented within the party leadership structure.
The APC added that sticking to the zoning structure will help the party manage its internal elections in an orderly way as preparations continue for the national convention where key leadership positions within the National Working Committee will be filled.
