Ex-Senator Aduda Quits PDP Over Internal Issues

Former senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Philip Aduda, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party on March 17, 2026, in Abuja, stating that ongoing internal issues in the party led to his decision.

He submitted his resignation through a letter addressed to the party chairman of his ward in Karu, making his exit effective immediately.

Aduda, who had served the party in different elected roles, ended his membership after years of political involvement, pointing to the unresolved challenges within the party as the reason for leaving. His departure adds to the recent changes in party alignment within the National Assembly.

In recent weeks, some lawmakers who were elected under the PDP have moved to other political parties. Three senators from Adamawa and Zamfara states left the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress, increasing the ruling party’s strength in the Senate. Their defection reduced the number of PDP senators.

At the same time, five other PDP senators joined the African Democratic Congress, which now has a stronger presence in the Senate as an opposition group. These movements have continued to change the balance of power among political parties in the upper legislative chamber.

Aduda’s resignation comes amid these shifts, as political actors reposition ahead of future elections and party activities across the country.
