Cross River Governor Orders Appointees Planning 2027 Bids to Step Down

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has instructed all political appointees and members of the State Executive Council who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign from their positions.

The directive, issued during a State Executive Council meeting, requires compliance by March 26, 2026.

The governor said the move is aimed at ensuring that governance remains focused and uninterrupted while preventing distractions from early political campaigns.

Otu explained that public office should not be used to advance personal political ambitions and that officials must prioritize service to the people.
